Malitta Seamon is the author, with her husband, Brad Seamon, of the new book Mindset Freedom: Seven Steps to Unlock Your Power in Life, Love, and Leadership. She is also a business strategist and coach.
Q: What inspired you to write Mindset Freedom, and how was the book's title chosen?
A: Mindset Freedom began as a journal—a sacred space where I could release emotions and reflect during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. Writing became a healing ritual, a way for me to process the crises that strained my marriage and threatened our business’s future. As I poured my experiences onto the page, clarity emerged, revealing life-altering insights.
As I navigated self-awareness and transformation, my husband and co-author, Brad, embarked on his own path of reflection and growth. Our individual journeys converged through journaling, laying the foundation for what eventually became Mindset Freedom.
The title encapsulates a profound truth: we all possess the power to reshape our perspectives. Along the way, I uncovered the invisible mental prisons I'd constructed—self-imposed limitations formed by internalizing external expectations. Recognizing and dismantling these barriers opened the door to a more liberated and fulfilling life.
Mindset Freedom is written for anyone feeling discontented or disconnected, ready to embark on a personal transformation—to live, love, and lead with greater clarity, authenticity, and freedom.
Q: How did you and your husband collaborate on the book? How would you describe your writing process?
A: Writing Mindset Freedom was an iterative journey. Brad and I have different communication styles—I'm an emotive storyteller, while Brad is a logical teacher. Initially, these differences posed challenges, but we soon recognized them as complementary strengths. Embracing this, we structured the book in two parts, allowing each of us to express our unique perspectives authentically.
During the height of our personal and professional crisis, I transformed an unused room in our home into a prayer space—a sanctuary away from all the turbulence in my life. This space became a place of healing for me.
Over time, Brad joined me there, and together, we engaged in the deep conversations needed to heal as a couple. These shared moments of vulnerability, along with our individual journaling practices, laid the foundation for our collaborative work.
Our discussions unearthed raw truths about ourselves, our relationship, and the patterns we had fallen into that led us to the brink. From this emerged a shared understanding and a desire to transform our experiences into insights that could help others. Brad often says, "Enlightenment comes after crisis, but it doesn't have to—the choice is ours."
Mindset Freedom is designed to help others avoid the “crisis before enlightenment” experience. Our journey of enlightenment culminated in the PROVE IT process—a seven-step journey toward personal transformation.
We were deliberate about writing the book in environments that nurtured our creativity—a cozy library in Washington, D.C., and a serene café by the Chesapeake Bay. Writing our parts of the book independently in these spaces allowed us to preserve the authenticity of our individual experiences, ensuring that our distinct voices remained true throughout the book.
Q: The author Derek Rydall said of the book, “This book is a gift for anyone standing at the crossroads of uncertainty, feeling the pull to redefine success on their own terms.” What do you think of that description?
A: I'm deeply moved by how Derek Rydall captured the essence of our message in Mindset Freedom. This book was born from a pivotal crossroads in our lives, where Brad and I faced painful truths—realizing that the life we'd built together could no longer continue as it once had. The transformative lessons we gleaned from that experience compelled us to share on a deeply personal level.
Having Derek describe our book as a gift feels profoundly affirming. His words mirror our intention: to provide encouragement and support to those who find themselves settling into discomfort. Our aim was to inspire readers to let caution—not fear—guide them toward a more fulfilling path.
Given Derek Rydall's profound contributions to the field of personal transformation, we're deeply honored that Mindset Freedom resonates with his expert knowledge of inner growth and the Law of Emergence.
Q: What impact did it have on you to write this book, and what do you hope readers take away from it?
A: The most profound impact for me was discovering the courage to be fully vulnerable--opening myself to the world in a way I never had before. We essentially opened our lives, allowing others a window into some of the most intimate and raw moments of our marriage and business.
Prior to the crisis, I was extremely private, keeping most people at a distance and fiercely guarding my personal life. But through the process of writing this book and applying the seven steps we share, I became comfortable living with myself, as myself, regardless of setting or audience.
What I hope readers take away is that there’s profound freedom in transparency. It might not feel safe to replace autopilot behaviors and interactions with a practice of unscripted openness, but for me, it became the safest, most grounded space to live from. External distractions and demands faded.
My hope is that everyone who reads the book is inspired to prioritize authenticity—not just as a belief, but as a way of being. I believe every person has a unique beauty that deserves to be seen, heard, and felt. When we yield to the highest expression of ourselves, we create more than passing moments of happiness.
Q: What are you working on now?
A: I'm excited to announce that the Mindset Freedom Tools are launching soon—a transformative suite designed to readers break through internal barriers and create powerful, purpose-driven life experiences.
These tools guide readers through our seven-step PROVE IT process, offering a deeper, more personal journey toward self-discovery and growth.
The methodology unfolds across three key stages:
Awareness: Develop conscious recognition of the pain points and patterns that may be holding readers back.
Excavation: Uncover and address hidden barriers—such as limiting beliefs and emotional blocks—that obstruct paths to happiness and fulfillment.
Transformation: Integrate practices that foster inner peace, authenticity, and sustainable change in all areas of life.
Mindset Freedom Tools are designed to meet individuals where they are and guide them toward where they want to be.
Q: Anything else we should know?
A: When we sense that something is missing in our lives, it's essential not to suppress that feeling. Instead, we should confront it with intention and self-awareness. Small compromises—what we might call "micro contortions"—can accumulate over time, leading to self-betrayal and fostering internal and external resentments that erode our happiness.
To navigate this journey of self-discovery and transformation, we offer these seven principles:
Presence and Awareness: Cultivate a deep understanding of your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Release: Let go of what no longer serves your highest good and happiness.
Observation and Self-Reflection: Examine your patterns to align your actions with your desires.
Valor: Embrace accountability and take responsibility for creating the life you want.
Ego Consciousness: Recognize and remove internal barriers and blockers.
Inner Peace: Prioritize a state of tranquility and balance.
Top-of-the-mountain experiences: Use this as the compass for greater joy.
If there's something in life you desire but have not yet been attained—PROVE IT.
