Q&A with Amberly Lago

Amberly Lago is the author of the new book Joy Through the Journey: Shift Your Mindset, Embrace the Present Moment, and Cultivate Resilience Through Life's Ups and Downs. She also has written the book True Grit and Grace, and is a speaker, coach, and podcaster.

Q: What inspired you to write Joy Through the Journey?

A: I wrote Joy Through the Journey because I know what it’s like to face unimaginable pain, setbacks, and uncertainty—and I also know what it takes to find joy despite it all.

My personal journey of resilience, from a life-altering accident to rebuilding my purpose, taught me that joy isn’t just something that happens when life is easy—it’s something we choose, cultivate, and fight for.

I wanted to share not just my story but also the mindset shifts, tools, and strategies that helped me—and can help others—find joy even in life’s hardest moments.

Q: The author Ed Mylett said of the book, “This book is a beautiful blend of personal testimony and practical advice.” What do you think of that description, and what did you see as the right balance between the two?

A: Ed’s words capture exactly what I hoped to achieve with this book. I believe stories have power, and by sharing my own struggles and triumphs, I wanted to create a sense of connection and encouragement.

But I also knew that inspiration alone isn’t enough—people need actionable steps to apply in their own lives. So, I was intentional about weaving together personal experiences with practical advice, so readers don’t just feel moved but also feel equipped to take action and create joy in their own lives.

Q: How was the book’s title chosen, and what does it signify for you?

A: The title Joy Through the Journey reflects a fundamental belief of mine: joy isn’t found in a perfect destination—it’s something we cultivate along the way, even in the midst of struggle. Too often, we wait for external circumstances to improve before we allow ourselves to feel joy, but this book is about shifting that mindset.

I wanted a title that emphasized that joy is possible, even in the hardest chapters of life, and that every step of the journey—painful or beautiful—is part of our greater purpose.

Q: What impact did it have on you to write the book, and what do you hope readers take away from it?

A: Writing this book was a deeply emotional and healing process. It forced me to revisit some of my most challenging moments, but it also reaffirmed how much strength and resilience we can build when we choose joy despite hardship.

My hope for readers is that they walk away feeling empowered to reclaim their own joy—no matter what they’re facing. I want them to see that resilience is a muscle they can build, that joy is within their reach, and that their story isn’t over.

Q: What are you working on now?

A: Right now, I’m focused on expanding the impact of Joy Through the Journey through speaking engagements, workshops, and my Joy Sparkers Book Club, where we’re diving deeper into the book’s principles together.

I’m also preparing for the Unstoppable Success Summit in April, which is all about helping entrepreneurs step into their purpose, build their brands, and make a real impact.

Plus, I’m always working on bringing powerful conversations to The Amberly Lago Show!

Q: Anything else we should know?

A: If there’s one thing I want people to know, it’s that joy is possible for everyone—no matter their circumstances. You don’t have to wait for life to be perfect to start living fully. You are stronger than you think, your story matters, and there is so much joy waiting for you on the journey ahead.
