Q&A with Lillian Brummet

Lillian Brummet, with her husband, Dave Brummet, collected the poetry of Dave's late father, Frank, in the new book Poetic Wanderings.

Q: How was this poetry collection’s title chosen, and what does it signify for you?

A: Dad loved to travel, to stroll on easy trails and take long drives. He enjoyed taking pictures of wildflowers, waterfalls and trees in the fall. Throughout his poetry collection he often referred to the joy of wandering in nature.

We felt that he also "wandered" in the world of poetry too. He liked studying the craft and exploring the techniques he learned. Poetic Wanderings just seemed to fit nicely with this.

Dave and I included this book in our poetry series, Playing With Words, which includes three books... so far.

Q: How did the two of you collaborate on the book?

A: Once the draft manuscript was ready, Dave set to work on creating content for the Front Matter and Back Matter areas, the blurb for the back cover and then the cover design. This work took another two to three months. Dave published it in three formats (hard cover, paperback & e-book) on Amazon. About six weeks later, the proof copy arrived we purchased a few dozen copies (for promotional activities).

I already had a marketing plan in place for that book release, and this involved six months of promotional activities, starting out with reaching out to Dad's contacts, organizations he was a part of, and family members.

Q: What do you hope readers take away from the poems?

A: Poetry is a personal introspective view, sharing glimpses into contemplative thought or a quick view into a specific moment. I always looked at poetry as a personal art, something one does simply because you need it, it calls to you.

Once we published our poetry books, however, I soon realized the incredible impact it can have on the reader. Some have written to us to share how the poetry helped them heal from trauma or grief, how it helped them gain insight and understanding, or how they were inspired by the words we strung together.

My hope is that readers continue to be impacted in this way.

Q: What are you working on now?

A: We are in the final stages of releasing a memoir, Down The Road.

Behind the scenes I am working on the draft manuscript for the second book in the Purple Snowflake Marketing series, tentatively titled The Next Step. We expect to have this published in January/February 2025.

Once this is done we have one more nonfiction book on the publication schedule titled From One Small Yard, focusing on backyard garden advice. This book offers a schedule to follow: chores and harvests to expect at certain times of the year and a planting timetable as well. It focuses on teaching sustainable gardening using biodynamic and permaculture methods.

We hope to delve deep into nonfiction once the publication schedule is completed.

Q: Anything else we should know?

A: First I want to take the opportunity to thank you for featuring us here and sharing our work with your audience.
