April 2023 Jewish Book Carnival

I'm so glad to be hosting the April 2023 Jewish Book Carnival! The carnival, which appears on or around the 15th of every month, brings together an assortment of information on books with Jewish themes.

Author Sari Kopitnikoff visits gilagreenwrites this month with a valuable blog post on how to let go and share our gifts with the world.

In March, Jill at Rhapsody in Books reviewed Shlemiel Crooks by Anna Olswanger [http://], an adorable (and true!) story about Passover that actually happened to Anna's great-grandparents, and told in the very amusing style of a Yiddish folktale.

A Jewish Grandmother enthusiastically reviewed At the Hour Between Dog and Wolf by Tara Ison, which is a Holocaust coming of age novel. Danielle, the young adolescent who is taken to hide in a small farming village, isn't a simple character at all. This is a very unusual story, not at all simplistic. It's a great book for a book club, too.

Here is a link to a recent interview Talia Carner gave at the G100 Conference:

At Jewish Books for Kids and More, Barbara Bietz interviews Martin Lemlman about his new book, The Miracle Seed. Leave a comment to be entered in a book giveaway.

On The Book of Life podcast, three authors discuss the complications of a mixed Jewish identity. We hear from Primrose Madayag Knazan (Lessons in Fusion), Aimee Lucido (Recipe for Disaster), and Amanda Panitch (The Two Wrong Halves of Ruby Taylor).

The Sydney Taylor Shmooze offers reviews of Jewish children's books. Here's a review of the wordless picture book Afikomen by Tziporah Cohen.

Reuven Chaim Klein just posted a new review written by his wife, Shira Yael Klein, at the Rachack Review.

On her My Machberet blog, Erika Dreifus routinely compiles news of Jewish literary interest. Here's one recent post, which includes a mention of Erika's own review of Tova Reich's forthcoming The House of Love and Prayer and Other Stories for Moment magazine.

And on my own blog, Book Q&As with Deborah Kalb, I posted a Q&A with Josh Weiss about his new novel, Sunset Empire.

Many thanks to everyone!
