Q&A with Rob Sayegh Jr.

Rob Sayegh Jr. is the author and illustrator of the new children's picture book Dawn Patrol. His other books include Proper Badger Would Never Trash the Classroom. He lives in San Francisco.

Q: How would you describe the dynamic between the father and daughter in your new book?

A: The father-daughter relationship is a powerful bond, but also one that isn't uncommon with any parent-child relationship. Children form bonds with their parents' hobbies simply by being around them. When they can participate in their favorite activities or share in daily routines, this bond only grows stronger.

Q: What do you hope kids take away from the story?

A: I really hope kids and parents take away how precious time is with the ones we love most and how even the simplest routines and pastimes can help guide who we are and who we eventually become.

Q: What are you working on now?

A: I am currently working on my next picture book with Candlewick Press, an unannounced title, as well as a new board book series with Penguin Kids.

Q: Anything else we should know?

A: My next releases are both sequels. Proper Badger Would Never Trash the Classroom! with Lauren Glattly released July 22, 2025. The sequel to the New York Times bestselling Cupig: The Valentine’s Day Pig, Cupig Saves Christmas, with Claire Tattersfield, will release October 14, 2025.
