Jill Shalvis is the author of the new novel Almost Just Friends. Her other books include The Lemon Sisters and Lost and Found Sisters. She lives in the Sierras.
Q: How did you come up with the idea for Almost Just
Friends, and for your character Piper?
A: I’m fascinated by relationships. Romantic
relationships, friendships, bromances, and siblings.
Piper is the oldest sister, who’s been tasked with
responsibilities she never should have had – raising her two younger siblings.
I had fun starting the book in a place where Piper thought she was finally free
… only to have it all come tumbling back into her lap, her siblings, secrets …
a love she thought she didn’t want…
Q: What do you think the story says about sibling
relationships?
A: That it can go incredibly south and yet that blood
tie remains no matter what.
Q: You tell the story from several characters'
perspectives. How did you choose the point-of-view characters for this novel?
A: I choose the characters who have the most to gain,
to lose, and the biggest character arc of their own.
Q: What do you hope readers take away from the story?
A: Family isn’t necessary only the people you share
blood with. It’s who you share an unbreakable bond with.
Q: What are you working on now?
A: Putting the finishing touches on The Summer Deal
for June!!!!
