Q&A with Jodi Dee

 

 

Jodi Dee is the author of the new middle grade novel Energy Wars: The Awakening. Her other books include The Dirt Girl. She is the founder of Jodi Dee Publishing.

 

Q: What inspired you to write Energy Wars: The Awakening, and how did you create your character Myles?

 

A: Energy is the basis of all things – an unseen phenomenon. I wanted to create a visual for how the unseen works. To show that our “energy” does effect everything around us (even plants).

 

My writing seems to follow the aging of my children, who are now teenagers. I hear the conversations of my 13-year-old son and his friends. The books is their voices in my head. Myles is the sum of all of that.

Q: Did you know how the story would end before you started writing it, or did you make many changes along the way?

 

A: Yes! Not really. I reported on what I was seeing in my head.

 

Q: Did you need to do any research to write the book, and if so, did you learn anything that especially surprised you?

 

A: Yes, I wanted to make sure the book was accurate. Michael Crichton was my favorite author and I loved how he took real science and expanded on it. I hope people learn about quantum reality after reading my book!

 

Q: What do you hope readers take away from the book?

 

A: I want them to understand they are a field of energy first and how important their state of being is – how they think and feel matters. It drives how they experience life and what will come to them.

 

Q: This is the first in a series—can you tell us what’s next?

 

A: I am actually more excited to release book 2 in September because it is more of a Marvel type story, as Myles becomes a true super human. I bring more of the worldy aspects and greater idea of energy wars on a larger scale.

 

Q: Anything else we should know?

 

A: Book 1 is meant to be an introduction to the series, and to lay a foundation of what energy is and that we are all made up of energy. The rest of the books are more action-packed and superhero in nature.
